Hema Malini Disagrees That OTT Has Bought Better Roles For Women

Hema Malini has expressed her disagreement with the notion that OTT platforms have led to better roles and opportunities for female actors. Hema stated that Amitabh Bachchan, her fellow actor, is often offered roles that are specifically written for him. But such opportunities are not available for female actors. She emphasized that if a role were to be written "keeping me in mind, it would be nice". Hema made her acting debut in 1963 with the Tamil film Idhu Sathiyam. She has since appeared in several prominent films such as Sholay, Satte Pe Satta, and Baghban.

Hema expressed her eagerness to explore diverse roles ranging from dramatic to unconventional. She stated that she would never decline an acting opportunity as it is her passion. She further added that she is yet to receive an offer for a role that is both challenging and exciting.

Amitabh Bachchan is currently working on several projects. These include Nag Ashwin's Project K. It is a bilingual film featuring Deepika Padukone and Prabhas. He also has Ribhu Dasgupta's upcoming courtroom drama film Section 84. In the film, he will be joined by Diana Penty, Nimrat Kaur, and Abhishek Banerjee.

Hema's observation about male actors is more likely to receive author-backed roles than their female counterparts is important. It underscores the ongoing gender disparity in the Indian film industry. Her call for greater opportunities for female actors has resonated with many. Her comments call for more diverse and inclusive representation in Indian cinema.
