“The movie is inspired by several real-life incidents that I have seen back in my village. Naani Maduve Prasanga is about a 37-year-old man from an agricultural background, who is unable to find a life partner. Naani is a satirical take on this whole bride-hunting situation. It is because many men from my native marry girls from different states because they are unable to find one here. This is a serious problem as girls do not find boys from farming backgrounds ‘glamorous’. That’s why I chose this storyline. So I can address a serious subject, while also including comedy,” Hemanth shares. “Despite having a steady income, there are many who are devoid of marital bliss. They are not bold enough to make a move or fall in love and the traditional ways aren’t working out for them. This creates situations that are comical and sometimes intense. Naani Maduve Prasanga, like many classics, will be relevant even after 30 years,” he adds. The first of the two portions of the movie, according to Hemanth, would be released in April. Hemanth, who both acted in and directed the movie, admits that it was tedious but is relieved that it turned out nicely. “Kantara has captured the essence of south Canara culture. And in Naani, we have built the narrative around north Canara culture. Also, this is my first experience working for a rooted film because I have always made commercial, peppy films. The film is shot in a house inside a forest in Sirsi. The film has over 35 artists, and bringing them together was a bit difficult. But they have all played their parts well. By the time we wrapped up, it felt like a picnic,” he adds. The film stars Rajesh Nataranga, Padmaja Rao, Sunetra Pandit, and Madhu Hegde. It also has actors Shruthi Nandish, Shreya Vasanth, and Gitanjali Mangal playing the female lead.
