One of the popular film festivals of India, MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival got successfully concluded last night. The 21st edition of MAMI started on the 17th of this month and continued till yesterday. Many films from across the world had their screenings over these seven days of the festival.
There were a few festival favorites right when the schedule got announced. The first one among them is The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese. Even though the film will be out on Netflix next month, people thronged into the theatres to watch this three and a half-hour long crime drama. As expected, Scorsese knocked it out of the park with this one as well.
Honey Boy starring Lucas Hedges, Shia LaBeouf and Noah Jupe in the lead roles, is another gem that deserves all the acclaim. This film is one of the best dramas of this year. Then there is Ken Loach's Sorry We Missed You, which will move you into tears by the end of it.
Coming to the thrillers, French film Les Miserables takes the top position. This poignant thriller deserves all the hype it got and easily one of the best films this year. Romanian flick The Whistlers is also a good thriller to watch.
German film System Crasher is a weird and wacky comedy of a nine-year-old hyperactive girl, which is the best among the lot in the festival. This is a kind of film which we won't forget for a long time.
Ari Aster, who impressed with The Hereditary last year, came up with Midsommar this time. This weird horror-thriller gives you chills down the spine and it deserves a theatrical experience. These are some of the films that impressed us at MAMI.
