Dulquer Salman usually has the highest first-day theater collection among the young stars in Malayalam. It remains to be seen whether he will retain the position in Kerala when the theaters are reopened after a long hiatus. Kurup is the biggest budget film and the biggest release of Dulquar's career. Kurup, directed by Srinath Rajendran, will have its release worldwide in 1500 theaters. Apart from Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada versions are also coming together. In Kerala alone, it will release in over 450 theaters.
With its wide release, Kurup has 475 fan shows. Kurup is the next Dulquer Salmaan movie after Varane Asvasyamundu. The film has a budget of Rs 35 crore. Wayfarer Films owned by Dulquer Salmaan produces the film. The film was shot in Kerala, Ahmedabad, Bombay, Dubai, Mangalore, and Mysore for six months. 105 days were entirely spent on shooting.
The film bases the life of Sukumara Kurup, the infamous captive in Kerala. Written by Jithin K Jose, the film has its script and narration by Daniel Soyuz Nair and KS Aravind. Nimish Ravi is the cinematographer and Sushin Shyam is the music director. Vini Vishwa Lal is also behind Kurup as the Creative Director. The production designer of the film is Bangla, who won the National Award for Best Production Design. This was for Kammarasambhavam. Another National Award winner Vivek Harshan edits the film.
