On August 24, two men were arrested by the Cyber Crime Police for impersonating actor Arya and cheating a woman named Vidja, a Sri Lankan settled in Germany. The culprits extorted an amount of Rs 70 lakh from him with a promise to get married to Arya. Vidja had earlier written a complaint against Arya to the Prime Minister and President. She wrote that the actor received Rs 70.40 lakh saying that he was struggling financially due to the Covid-19 lockdown. She moved the court to file a case against Arya. On August 11, Arya appeared before the police and co-operated with the investigation. After almost two weeks, the Central Crime Branch police arrested R Mohammad, Arman, and his brother-in-law A Mohammad Hussaini Faiyaj in connection with the case. The duo hails from Puliyanthope, Chennai.
