Njan Merikutty is the most celebrated film in Jayasurya's career. Njan Merikutty was a separate chapter in Malayalam cinema that used to make fun of and insult transgender people. Written and directed by Ranjith Shankar, Jayasurya gave a magnificent performance in this film.

This movie was able to accurately depict the problems faced by transgender people and their lives to some extent. In an interview with Kanchannel Media, Jayasurya says that he never thought that he would be able to do the film Njan Merikutty, and he used to cry sitting in the caravan.

"Marykutty is the film where I realized the woman in me. It was the same if you didn't tell us to break up. It is a movie where Jayasurya doesn't seem to have any role. I couldn't get into character or do anything for three days during the shoot. I cried sitting in the caravan that day. There is no place even for confidence that we can do it. For those three days, I was lost. After that, on the fourth day, I was standing to pack up.

I couldn't do it. It happened with some divine help. Otherwise, it is certain that it can not be touched. It's not like playing a skit in front of the camera. It's easy to put on a costume. But becoming a woman is what I really experienced through that film. That movie happened with some mercy. Apart from that, I don't have a role in that film, "said Jayasuriya.

Jewel Mary, Suraj Venjaramood, Aju Varghese, and Joju George were the other characters in the film.
