Actor Siby Thomas and journalist Sreejith Divakaran have penned the script for the film.
In an interview, actor Asif Ali talks about his decision to star in Crime and Punishment. Asif says that he decided to commit to the film because the character is realistic. Asif said that if it was a cinematic cop, he probably would not have said yes to the film.
Asif says that Rajeev Ravi sent him a surprise message to offer the role in the film. “I starred in Virus. About a month and a half after that, Rajivettan sent me a very surprising message. ‘I am Rajiv Ravi, give me a call when you are free,’ he said. When I was free, I called him and he said, ‘I have a script. Sibi will call and tell the story. Please listen to it. If you are okay, we can do it;” said Asif Ali.
Asif added that he was afraid to do the character of a police officer. “I was still afraid of becoming a cop. The confusion over which way to prepare was terrible. But it was in the interaction with Sibi Sir that I realized that there is a difference between the cops seen in the movie and the real life cops.
We decided to make this film with the realistic idea that we are policemen just like ordinary people. If it was a cinematic cop, maybe I would not have committed to it;”said Asif Ali. Senthil, Sharafuddin, and Sunny Wayne will play other important roles in the film.
