The entire capital is in frenzy for the 27th IFFK. There were crowds of delegates everywhere. IFFK is not only about cinema but also about friendship and music. Similarly, director Sandeep Pampally and Surabhi, who came to watch a movie at Tagore Theater six years ago and became friends got married yesterday. The videos of both of them arriving at the IFFK venue, the Tagore Theater, in the same costume after their marriage is now gaining attention on social media.
“Director Pampally, who won the National Award for Best Newcomer Director in 2018 and his partner Surabhi visits IFFK on their wedding day on Sunday. The couple had met and became acquainted during the IFFK six years back. Delegates cheered for the pair who share the love of movies as well as for each other;” noted official IFFK Facebook page.
Chairman Ranjith of the Film Academy, Secretary Ajoy Chandran, and others welcomed the bride and groom with sweets. Pampalli and Surabhi got married at JJ Auditorium, Kallambalam. "Most of my life starts at IFFK." He met Surabhi on a Sunday like this. It later reached a family friend. Pampalli told the media that the proposal was made by the mother six to seven months ago.
In 2018, Sinchar, directed by Pampalli, won the National Film Award for Best Debut Director. The film was made in Lakshadweep's Libby Jesari language. Surabhi is a native of Navaikkulam, Kalambalam. She is currently working as an officer in the Directorate of Health Services.
Meanwhile, 186 films from 70 countries will be screened at the fair, which will be held until December 16. 14 films will be screened in the international competition category, 12 in the Malayalam Cinema Today category, and seven in the Indian Cinema Now category. 78 films will be screened in the world cinema category. The fair will host the world premieres of 12 films. The show will be held in 14 theatres.
