A few months back, superstar Salman Khan announced his next project called Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali. The film that also stars Pooja Hegde in it, is said to be the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Veeram. According to a report on an entertainment website called Pinkvilla, Akshay Kumar's Bachchan Pandey was initially thought of like the remake of Veeram but Sajid Nadiadwala changed his mind.
A source close to them told the website, "Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali is actually a remake of Ajith starrer Veeram. The makers had bought the rights to the Tamil film and were planning to make it. They have tweaked the story a bit to suit the title and the pan-India audience. When Salman heard the story, he immediately agreed to be part of this film.
He also told the website that now Akshay Kumar's Bachchan Pandey will be a remake of another south Indian film called Jigarthanda. "But then, they decided to alter the script and now, Bachchan Pandey is a remake of Jigarthanda. The remake rights of which also lied with NGE. Then, Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali was written as a remake of Veeram, which will now star Salman instead of Akshay, the source added.
While Salman Khan's Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali will release next year in May, Bachchan Pandey will release it in January next year. Bachchan Pandey will also star Kriti Sanon in the lead role along with Akshay Kumar.
