Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan is his ambitious project which is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Thailand. Though he has been trying to make the film work, it couldn't materialize due to financial crunch. Now, Mani Ratnam has inked a deal with Lyca Productions to bankroll this venture.
The latest development is that lyricist Vairamuthu is not a part of Ponniyin Selvan anymore. Earlier, when the news of Vairamuthu penning 12 songs for Ponniyin Selvan came out, many women including Chinmayi Sripaada expressed their dissatisfaction over the inclusion of a #MeToo accused in Mani Ratnam's film.
Recently, Mani Ratnam announced the cast and crew of the film and it was surprising to see Vairamuthu's name was left out of the list. Sources close to the team revealed that Vairamuthu will not be a part of Ponniyin Selvan due to the #MeToo backlash.
In 2018, nearly 8 women called out lyricist Vairamuthu for his predatory behavior. The women who named him were out of work for over a year while Vairamuthu continued to work and was present several events. An official announcement regarding Vairamuthu's exclusion is expected to be out soon.
