“It Took So Long To Make The Movie, And It Was So Hard To Finish;” Basil Joseph Talks About Minnal Murali

BasilJoseph’s Tovino starrer Minnal Murali is all set to release. This is the third film directed by Basil after Kunjiramayanam and Goda. Basil announced that they have handed over the film to Netflix after final mixing.

Talking about the film, Basil says that Minnal Murali was hard to finish. "We can say for sure that this is not just a normal movie, because it took so long to make the movie, and it was so hard to finish," said Basil.

Further, Basil has opened about the crisis they faced during the filming of the movie. Basil said the uncertainties created by the Covid made the filming even tougher. He added that they did it through the excellent work of all the members of the team.

“The shooting of the film was 111 days long. In the meantime, there were two lockdowns due to Covid. There were a lot of problems during these times. The first problem was the destruction of the cinema set in Aluva. Covid came to all of us on set. We were devastated by the loss of two people who were with us;” said Basil.

He further mourned the loss of the two people who died during the film. “We have lost Director and writer P.S. Balachandran Sir and Achenkunju Chettan from Wayanad. This was before the dubbing of the two was even completed. Injury to hero Tovino, I have never done a film that has gone through so many crises;” says Basil.

“Despite its limitations, we did not compromise on any of the elements required for the film. The producer was with me for three years. I believe it is because of the faith in this film. Covid has been a blessing to us in another way. Because the filming took so long, Tovino was able to use a variety of getups at different times. That is an achievement of the cinema;” Basil added.

The film, directed by Basil Joseph will have its screening on Netflix. Sofia Paul produces Minnal Murali under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters. Apart from Malayalam, the film will release in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Minnal Murali is Basil's second film featuring Tovino in the lead role after Goda. The film will be the first superhero movie in Malayalam. Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew wrote the screenplay for the film. The cinematographer is Sameer Tahir. Shaan Rahman composed the music for Minnal Murali.
