It all started with a desire of Aswini Dutt who wanted to make a socio-fantasy film with Chiranjeevi. Right from the stage of idea to the complete development of script he was ardent & active participant. The film also featured huge sets and chase sequences. The background score and soundtrack for Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari were provided by maestro Ilaiyaraaja. And Veturi Sundararama Murthy is the lyricist. This film also fetched Filmfare Award for Best Director – K. Raghavendra Rao and Nandi Award for Best Music Director – Ilaiyaraaja
The film had 100-day runs in a number of theatres and a 200-day run in one center. It collected over more than 110 million at the box office and broke all the records which were set up by past movies and became a blockbuster and at one point the highest-grossing Telugu film of all-time. This movie has also set a new record by managing to pull the crowds to theatres despite floods. It is a cult classic of Telugu cinema. India Today cited it as the most influential Telugu film of the 1990s decade.
