The one thing that can be picked from the trailer of Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl that released today, is that we don’t get respect by just saying “I can do it”, we earn when we stay silent, and “Just do it”. The film is slated to release through the online streaming platform Netflix on August 12th.
The film which was directed by Sharan Sharma, also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Viineet Kumar, Manav Vij, and Ayesha Raza. Pankaj Tripathi essays the role of Janhvi Kapoor/Gunjan Saxena’s father who supports her passion and inspires her journey of becoming a Pilot.
In the trailer, we can see the transformation of Janhvi Kapoor from a girl to a warrior, who battles a lot of scepticism from the male-dominated IAF camp.
The film is inspired by the real Gunjan Saxena’s story of courage, determination, and grit. She was one of India’s first women to serve in combat during the Kargil War along with Srividya Rajan. They flew Cheetah helicopters right into a live war zone for reconnaissance missions and casualty evacuations from the Kargil-Tololing-Batalik region. Gunjan Saxena was honoured with the Shaurya Chakra for self-sacrifice and valour while not engaged in direct combat with the enemy.
However, the trailer did touch the emotional and inspirational chord within me, and now I am waiting for August 12th to watch it on Netflix with my popcorn beside.
