Ever since it announced that the iconic 90s film Mr. India is coming back on the big screen, it hasn't caught a break. The original film stars Anil Kapoor in the titular role of an invisible man fighting an evil tyrant of sorts. From the very beginning, Sonam Kapoor and Shekar Kapur both expressed sadness over not told about the film getting a sequel.
Mr. India 2 is being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Shekar Kapur even hinted at going to court over his creative rights on the project.
"The argument on a remake of Mr. India is not that no one took permission from me or even bothered to tell me. The question is. If you are remaking a feature film, based on a director’s very successful work, does the director have no creative rights over what he/she created?"The veteran director wrote in a scathing tweet.
However, not everyone agrees with Shekar Kapur's claims of creative rights. For instance, Javed Akhtar who wrote the original film hit back at Shekar Kapur. Akhtar said that as a writer he obviously has more rights over the project than the director.
In a tweet regarding the same Javed Akhtar wrote, "Shekhar saheb the story the situations, the scenes, the characters, the dialogue, the lyrics even the title none of these were yours. I gave it all to you. Yes, you execute it very well but how can your claim on the film be more than mine. It wasn’t your idea. It wasn’t your dream."
