Jay Z explains why the couple remained seated during the national anthem performance at Super Bowl

Beyonce and Jay Z got criticized by the media for not standing up during the national anthem performance by Demi Lovato at Super Bowl. The couple chose to remain seated as Lovato started singing The Star-Spangled Banner, this was also called a silent protest by a number of supporters but Jay Z on Thursday clarified that it wasn’t a protest at all. Jay Z clarified that this wasn’t a calculated move. The couple was talking about how Lovato must be nervous at that point of time as Beyonce went through the same while she performed at the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2013 and 2015. Jay Z also clarified that he wouldn’t put his daughter in such a position. “We wouldn't do that to Blue and put her in that position, if we told her we were going to do something like that, you'd have seen her tapping me a hundred times."

Jay Z also mentioned how Beyonce was proud of Lovato’s performance and the fact that there were two Latin women performing at the Super Bowl, which in itself was a huge protest. The diversity on the stage was the “biggest and loudest protest” according to the rapper.
