Kajol: Playing Savitribai in Tanhaji was a task

Playing a historical role for the first time in her acting career, Kajol felt accountable to be Savitribai in ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’. It was quite a task since there was no reference point for her to adapt to. Being the titular character’s wife, she said she took it up as a challenge because the script was very gripping and all the characters were well placed.

The actress’s husband, Ajay Devgn, is the lead actor of the film, under Om Raut’s direction. The storyline is set in the seventeenth century. It revolves around the life of Tanhaji Malusare. He was Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja’s military leader. Ajay persuaded Kajol that there was an apt role for her in the movie. She’s a wife, mother, and Tanhaji’s support system. Saif Ali Khan features in the movie in the role of a dark character.

From stepping into Savitribai’s saree to dubbing for the film, Kajol wasn’t entirely satisfied with her performance. She wishes to have delivered an immersive performance for the audience to take back home. She urges that if her performance doesn’t hinder the beautiful narration of this historical tale, that’ll be justice enough for her character.

'Tanhaji' has already generated a lot of expectations by featuring the ever so lovely couple on screen, but Kajol's anticipation is barely keeping us in our seats. The film will reach theatres on 10th January 2020.
