Kalidas Jayaram's upcoming film Backpakers will be the love story of two cancer survivors

Director Jayaraj scored a success with his last film Roudram 2018, which was heavily inspired by the Kerala flood incident. Now, he is coming up with his new film Backpackers with Kalidas Jayaram and Karthika Nair playing the lead roles. Jayaraj says that this film is the love story of two cancer survivors and is heavily inspired by real incidents.

Speaking in an interview with the Times of India, Jayaraj said that he had an idea of making a film on two cancer patients who meet at the Oncology ward and fall in love with each other. To research more on the disease, Jayaraj met oncologist Dr V P Gangadharan. The latter had told him a similar story of two of his patients. Then, Jayaraj decided to make a film on their lives instead.

Renji Panicker, Shivajith Padmanabhan, Jayakumar and Sabitha Jayaraj and Dr V P Gangadharan have played the important roles in this movie. The director has also stated that Backpackers is not a sad film as suggested by its story. He says that it is a happy film about the celebration of love. Backpackers got filmed in Kottayam, Thiruvalla, Gavi, Wagamon and Varkala. Sachin Shanker has composed seven songs of this film.
