The blockbuster will either receive a prequel or a sequel, revealed the producer. "Rishab is travelling. Once he comes back, we will discuss what we want to make - a prequel or a sequel", Vijay Kirangandur said in a talk with PTI.
He did, however, add that Kantara 2 might not be their upcoming release. "We will have something on cards in a couple of months. We definitely have plans for Kantara 2 but there’s no timeline. Vijay Kiragandur recently disclosed in an interview that Kantara has been submitted for an Oscar. He said, "We have submitted our application for Oscars for Kantara and have our fingers crossed as the final nominations are yet to come". Following SS Rajamouli's box office smash RRR, the Rishab Shetty-helmed movie is the second South Indian entry in the contest.
Kantara is based on the local ritual dance style known as Bhoota Kola. It is set against the backdrop of coastal Karnataka. The film also stars Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, and others. Rishab Shetty plays both Kaadubettu Shiva and his father. Vijay Kiragandur is funding Kantara through his company Hombale Films.
