But Karan Johar had once revealed that the shooting of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was not that easy. The problem was that no one on the sets showed much interest in Hrithik. Karan wrote in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy, that he had to keep Hrithik on the sets for various reasons. It was a time when Shah Rukh Khan faced some setbacks in his career. It was a time when comparisons were being made that Shahrukh's time was over and Hrithik was now in that position. It was a time when Hrithik's Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was a huge hit. Similarly, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan were not on good terms with Hrithik. With all this, there was total negativity on set.
Karan wrote that since Hrithik was a newcomer, the comparisons with Shah Rukh were unfair. After the failure of two films, Shah Rukh, who was a superstar at that time, was compared to someone much younger like Hrithik. So Hrithik felt he needed a helping hand during the shoot. The Bachchans also did not have a good relationship with him. Shahrukh kept his distance from Hrithik. Karan said in the book that Shah Rukh and Kajol were a team. I felt that he wanted to help me that day. A good friendship developed between us. We became close to each other. He felt like he was missing something because of these things. Back then, Hrithik was a bit nervous around people. But today he has improved a lot,' added Karan Johar.
