Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all the film shoots got canceled. As the theaters got shut down, the films which were ready are just lying under the cans. Keeping a film unreleased for a long time will become a financial burden for the producer. Thus, many small film producers are selling their movies to OTT platforms. Recently, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights of seven films from various different languages. One of them is the Tamil-Telugu bilingual Penguin, which stars National Award Winning actress
Keerthy Suresh in the lead role. The teaser of this film got dropped just a while ago and it looks like a spooky psychological thriller.
Going by the teaser, the films seem to be revolving around a missing case of a kid. Keerthy Suresh played the role of the mother in it. The background score of the film is really good and so is the cinematography.
Penguin got directed by newcomer Eshavar Karthic. It is being produced by popular director Karthik Subbaraj under his banner Stone Bench Films. The film got announced in October last year and the shooting got completes within a couple of months. As the lockdown affected its theatrical release, the makers are going ahead with an OTT release. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 19th, in both Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil versions. The trailer will be out on June 11.
The other films that got acquired by Prime Video include Ponmagal Vandhaal, Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi, and a few other South Indian films. Ponmagal Vandhal had its premiere on May 29. It is getting a good reception from the viewers.
Amitabh Bachchan and
Ayushmann Khurrana's Gulabo Sitabo will premiere on June 12.
