On September 15, Simbu's most recent movie, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, was finally released in theatres. The film has been well-received. The main character in the movie, Muthu (played by Simbu), is a migrant worker from Tamil Nadu who moves to Mumbai at a young age and lives in a hellish environment that eventually inspires him to become a gangster.

Netizens' critiques of the movie remarked that Simbu's acting was also good and compared it to Kamal Haasan's "Nayagan." In the meantime, Kamal Haasan's director Lokesh Kanagaraj claimed that the movie may have been inspired by "Nayagan" or may have conveyed that impression because Gautham Vasudev Menon is a fan in a press conference on September 15. According to reports, he claimed that despite the buzz and positive reviews surrounding the movie "Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu," he had not yet seen it.

According to the plans of the writer and director, the movie might potentially have a sequel. Neeraj Madhav and Radhika Sarathkumar have significant roles in the movie in addition to Simbu and Siddhi Idnani, who play the lead roles. AR Rahman is the film's music composer.
