Director Sekhar Kammula says he is nervous about his new film ‘Love Story. The film starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi is all set to hit theatres tomorrow. With the film approaching its release date, the director says that the film is more than a romantic drama. “On the surface the film is just the story of a boy and a girl falling in love, pursuing their dreams and overcoming their insecurities;” says the director.
Sekhar added that the film is much more than a romantic drama. “But peel the layers and you will see it’s much more than that. Yes, there’s romance, nostalgia, and yearning. But there’s also a boy from an oppressed section of society looking to be a Zumba instructor and a girl struggling to cope with childhood trauma as she looks to find a well-paying job. At the crux of it, all lie caste and gender issues and societal barriers that the protagonists need to overcome to achieve their dreams;” Sekhar Kammula added.
Sekhar further added that he is very cautious about how the film conveys its message. “Even if my films have nothing good to offer, they shouldn’t portray anything bad. I’ve always tried to do that with my films and I hope I’ve now made space for stories that are not often told. A mainstream hero like Chay playing a character like Revanth is in itself a major victory. Pallavi’s character, Mounica is also a complex one. And their pairing truly is magical. They had to work hard to pull off their roles; they did it all with a smile on their faces;” he says.
