Kangana Ranaut made her debut in the Tamil film industry with Jayam Ravis;s Dhaam Dhoom. After several years, she is all set to make her comeback in Kollywood Jamil, which is a biopic based on the life of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Directed by Al Vijay, the film is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Sailesh R Singh. Recently, the makers of Thalaivi announced that the film's release has been postponed due to the rising Covid-19 cases in the country. J Deepa, nniece of Jayalalithaa filed a petition in the Madras High Court requesting a ban of the film. She feared that the film will show Jayalalithaa in a negative light.

J Deepa, in her petition, wrote that that the makers of Thalaivi did not take her permission before writing the script, story and diaglogues of the film. Howver, Thalaivi's counsel said that Thalaivi's story was based on Vaasanthi's book of the same name. Also, he confirmed that the information regarding Jayalalithaa is accessible for the public. AL Vijay also cleared the aire saying that there won't be a private screening as the film has already been approved by the Censor Board.
