Madras High Court Stays Order Against Vijay's Rolls Royce Tax Case

Earlier this year, a nine-year-old case of actor Vijay came for a hearing. In the petition, Vijay sought for exemption on entry tax for his imported luxury car Rolls Royce Ghost. Since the entry tax wasn't paid, Vijay was not able to take his car for a drive. The judge who heard the case imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh and passed some harsh remarks. He said that actors like Vijay should be real-life heroes by following the rules and paying taxes properly. Vijay's counsel went for a re-appeal in the case. His lawyer said that Vijay is willing to pay the tax amount, but they want the harsh comments against him to be removed.

After hearing the case, judges M Duraiswami and R Hemalatha stayed the previous order passed by the single judge. The court has also given Vijay a week's time to pay the balance of the entry tax and the fine amount too. The court also asked the Income Tax department to issue a challan to Vijay in a week. This has come as a huge relief for Vijay and his camp. On the work front, Vijay is shooting for director Nelson Dilipkumar's Beast, which is tipped to be a commercial entertainer. The film will release next year.
