In a conversation, Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran predicted that the current mess that Bollywood is going through is a mere phase and one big hit like Pathaan can overcome this. It would be an understatement to say that Bollywood has had a difficult year in 2022. Hindi films faced intense competition at the box office films. A few South Indian films performed well across all of India. With a few notable exceptions like Drishyam 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kashmir Files, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Hindi films did not do as expected.
When Kamal Haasan, SS Rajamouli, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Swapna Dutt, and Lokesh Kanagaraj participated in a roundtable discussion with Film Companion, Prithviraj said, “There have been times not too long ago when we’ve set down the table & thought, ‘How are they doing it? How is Hindi cinema cracking this? How are they able to open up such huge overseas markets?’ And that was not too long ago. I am not talking about the medieval ages. So, this I truly believe is a phase. There will be one big hit, maybe it’s Pathaan.”
The actor-director is aware of some of the movies that are in production right now. He believes how one of them might change the events. “It could just be one big film followed by another big film and the whole narrative will change,” he added.
Pathaan includes the biggest stars in nation, including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham. It is a part of Aditya Chopra's ambitious spy world. The movie will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions. The movie is set to debut on January 25, 2023.
