Kevin Feige has now become the face of Marvel itself. He helped create the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe from the very beginning and is now at the helm of it all. However, in a recent interview Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner aka the Hulk in marvel films has revealed some shocking news.
Mark Ruffalo spoke of a time in 2012 when Kevin Feige almost quit his job at Marvel due to a lack of diversity and representation in their films. Ruffalo said that this incident took place at the sets of the first Avengers film. He revealed that Fiege had expressed his grievance right before a meeting with his bosses.
While speaking to The Independent Ruffalo said , "When we did the first Avengers, Kevin Feige told me, 'Listen, I might not be here tomorrow'. And he's like, 'Ike (Perlmutter, Disney's largest shareholder at that point) does not believe that anyone will go to a female-starring super movie. So if I am still here tomorrow you will know that I won that battle."
Ruffalo also said, "That was the turning point for Marvel. Because Kevin wanted black superheroes, women superheroes, LGBT superheroes. He changed the whole Marvel universe."
Ruffalo who has been around in the Marvel films for a long time now added on to say, "We now have gay superheroes, we have black superheroes, we have female superheroes Scarlett Johansson has her movie coming out, we have Captain Marvel, they are doing She-Hulk next. No other studio is being that forwardly inclusive on that level. They have to, though. This is the f***ing world. The culture is way ahead of politics."
Marvel is currently gearing up for the release of their latest film Black Widow across the globe. Black Widow scheduled to release on April 24.
