Model turned actress Meera Mithun has been sharing videos on her YouTube channel. In one of her videos, Meera Mithun used a casteist slur against the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste communities. After the video went viral, she and her boyfriend Sam Abishek were booked under seven sections including the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. On August 14, Meera Mithun and Sam were arrested by the Tamil Nadu police in Kerala. They spent more than a month in jail. Despite applying for bail multiple times, the court rejected it. The latest development is that the two have been granted conditional bail by the court.
Meera Mithun and her boyfriend were housed in Puzhal Central Jail. Their bail application was heard at a lower court in Chennai and granted bail saying that "erring" is human nature. It was Meera Mithun who spoke against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe members. His boyfriend was a co-actor. Meera Mithun and Sam were asked to furnish a bond of Rs 10,000 each with two sureties for a sum that is agreeable to the court. Also, Meera Mithun and Sam Abhishek have been asked to appear before police every day at 10.30 am until further orders. Further, they have been asked not to tamper with the evidence.
