Vijay Deverakonda has said his character in film 'Arjun Reddy', which got criticized for being misogynistic, loved women and he only came back from the "self-destruction mode" after Reddy's grandmother passed away. "Misogyny is hatred of women...where's...women-hatred that I'm not seeing," he added.
He further said the controversy around the film will affect his choice of scripts in the future. In the latest chat with film critic Baradwaj Rangan on Film Companion, Deverakonda first tackles the issue of Arjun Reddy getting labeled 'misogynistic’.
Vijay Deverakonda got irritated because of the social media backlash that he’s got from the Actor’s Adda that he did recently with stars like Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khurrana, Deepika Padukone, Parvathy Thiruvothu and others.
During the interaction, the point about Deverakonda’s film, Arjun Reddy, being toxic and misogynistic had raised and created a lot of buzz on social media.
He further asked whether the people who criticized Arjun Reddy had appreciated his movies like 'Dear Comrade' and 'Pelli Choopulu' which promote women empowerment.
