Fans of Mollywood are going gaga over the release of Marakkar. The epic drama bears the title Marakkar: Arabi Kadalinte Simham (Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea). The crew flagged off the final round of promotions with the unveiling of posters and release dates.
The ambitious project is slated for release in theatres on March 26. The Priyadarshan directed film features Mohanlal and his son Pranav Mohanlal in the eponymous role. Mohanlal plays the role of legendary hero Kunjali Marakkar. Pranav plays the younger version of his father's role, in the first act. The latest poster of the movie is going viral across social media. It features the father-son duo, along with the release date, much to the excitement of film buffs. Pranav Mohanlal recently stepped into Mollywood with the release of Irupathionpathaam Nootandu in 2019. The movie, however, didn't fare as well as expected. Cinemagoers expect Marakkar to affirm the young actor's position on the silver screen.
This is the first time the father-son duo are sharing the big screen. The only exception was a 3-second cameo by Pranav in the Mohanlal starrer Sagar Alias Jacky. Mollywood is prepping for the release of the period drama in the last week of March. The cast also includes Keerthi Suresh, Manju Warrier, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Suhasini, and Mukesh, among others.
Marakkar: Arabi Kadalinte Simham has renowned filmmaker Priyadarshan at its directorial helm. The movie depicts the legend of warfare led by Kunjali Marakkar against Portuguese colonialists. Marakkar was the Muslim naval chief of the Zamorin of Calicut in the 16th century. The historical fiction, with an equally grand budget, is the most anticipated release of the month.
The project, with a whopping 100 crore budget, anticipates creating ripples in the industry. The movie is jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, CJ Roy and Santosh Kuruvilla. They bankroll the film under the banners of Ashirvad Group, Moonshot Entertainment, and Confident Group. The historical-fiction drama will release in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu, on March 26.
