More theaters are set to open in Tamil Nadu. About 50 percent of the theaters across Tamil Nadu, including multiplexes, will open this weekend. The decision to open other theaters will be as per the release of new Tamil movies.

The lack of movies for release will be a challenge since the theatres are opening. The Tamil version of the Hollywood movie Conjuring 3, Akshay Kumar's Bell Bottom, and Godzilla Versus Kong are currently being screened. Talaivi, which tells the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha, will have its release on September 10.
Films like Dhanush's Karnan and Karthi's Sultan are likely to hit theaters again. Negotiations with theater owners and distributors are ongoing. Films, including the OTT-released Sarpatta Parambarai, may also hit theaters.
Films like Jagame Tandiram and Sarpatta Parambarai were released on various OTT platforms. Now moviegoers can hope that upcoming films like Madha Gadha Raja and Soora Puli will have released in theatres.
Meanwhile, the Kerala government has announced that the theatres will not open until December. Film and Culture Minister Saji Cherian has said that cinema theaters will not open until December. Saji Cherian said that the increase in daily Covid cases is a great concern. he added that the opening of theatres for the next four months will create a crisis.
