Amidst controversy and Oscars nominations, Scorsese's The Irishman has won the best film award by the National Board of Review. NBR or the National Board of Review also awarded Scorsese for his contribution to films as a whole. The award had meant for "cinematic artists who have contributed meaningfully to the history, culture, and excellence of motion pictures."
The Irishman had reviewed incredibly highly. It currently sits at a 96 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is also currently leading in the most streamed film on Netflix.
The Irishman's critical success means big for Netflix too and increases its reputation as a production company. Netflix also won big last night at the Gotham Independent film awards where Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story won four awards in a row.
Other winners at NBR included Quentin Tarantino's latest flick 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' Tarantino won the award for the best director and Brad Pitt, who stars in the film got the best supporting actor award. Another important film that won was Parasite. A South Korean film that won the best foreign-language film.
