Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan said that Navarasa received a good response from inside and outside India. The anthology film series was released on August 6 on Netflix. The two were happy with the response to the anthology film produced by Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan.
“Navarasa has made it to the top ten on Netflix in Singapore, Malaysia, and the UAE. The bottom line is that audiences love movies that are about Rasa. About 40% of the audience is from outside India. Glad to know that we have been able to satisfy people all over the world;” Says Mani Ratnam.
Director Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan bankroll the anthology film. Individual filmmakers directed each episode.
Each of the episodes focuses on one emotion from nine Navarasa. Starting from Shringara (love/beauty), Hasya (laughter), Karuna(sorrow), Raudra (anger), Veera (heroism/courage), Bhayanaka (terror/fear), Bibhatsa (disgust), Adbutha (surprise/wonder), Shantha (peace or tranquility) are included in the anthology film. Suriya, Prakash Raj, Vijay Sethupathi, Rohini, Parvathi, and Prayaga Martin plays major roles in the film. Revathi, Gautam Menon, Siddharth, and Yogi Babu also play important roles in the film.
The decision is to donate the proceeds of the film to the film workers during the Covid crisis. FEPSI, an organization of Tamil filmmakers will execute the action. For this, the actors and actresses of Navarasa have worked in the film without getting paid.
