Veteran performer Neena Gupta discussed how young Bollywood actresses are getting invited to overseas events in a recent interview. The actress had mixed feelings about the younger generation's international success. Speaking of stars like Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone, Neena expressed her disappointment at not having had the same kind of worldwide "exposure" at a younger age. When she sees them on these occasions, she says to feel "envious."
Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt grabbed attention at this year's Met Gala, which took place in New York on May 1 (May 2 in India), while Deepika Padukone presented at the 95th Academy Awards, which were held in Los Angeles in March.
Neena expressed her desire to be a young actor today in an interview with News18 while talking about them. She said, "I wish we also had the same kind of exposure. I think about it every passing minute. I feel envious every second (smiles). I wonder what if I was a young actor in this day and age! I could have achieved so much more. Having said that, I know that you can’t have everything that you wish for. I definitely do feel thankful for all the work that’s coming my way even at this age. But yes, I feel very, very jealous when I look at them wearing gowns and walking [on the global stage]".
The actor added that she would wear an outfit created by her daughter, actor-designer Masaba Gupta if she were ever invited to a major international event. She said, "If they call me, I’m game. I don’t have the body to wear a gown. So, I’ll wear a very beautiful saree if I’m invited to go [to an international event]. But no one’s inviting me (laughs). If an opportunity comes my way, I’ve Masaba to style me.”
Neena was last spotted in Mrs. Chatterjee VS. Norway. The actor has just finished production for Metro In Dino after wrapping his work on Charlie Chopra & The Mystery of Solang Valley. She also appeared in a portion of the R Balki-directed film Lust Stories 2. The movie will be released on June 29.
