The new horror film on Netflix, ‘The Platform’ is surprising the viewers with the ending of the film. Viewers are not sure what to make out of it, and that in its own way is bringing a lot of limelight for the film. The film definitely makes the viewer think further than what is on the screen or what it represents and the ending is no different.
The film is a Spanish thriller made by director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. It is set inside ‘ The Hole’, which is a vertical-shaped prison with a huge number of prisoners. The film gradually unfolds the fact that few prisoners inside have privilege over the rest few. Higher the floor, higher the advantage for food. Hence, whosoever is at the bottom of The Hole, struggles to survive due to the depletion of resources.
The film narrative is full of a lot of events. This tends to get heavy and dark with time, and the viewer is definitely unsure about how a film of those sorts would end. Hence, if you’ve given it a watch and are unable to comprehend the ending, then read ahead. Otherwise, be ready for some spoilers.
The ending is supposedly a metaphor as if to restore faith amidst the dark times of the capitalist system that the prison represents.
Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia explained: “ Ultimately I wanted it to be open to interpretation, whether the plan worked and the higher-ups even care about the people in the pit. We actually did film a different ending of the girl arriving at the first level, but we took it out of the movie.”
