New HBO series His Dark Materials is a compelling watch
Review: The HBO series His Dark Materials which replaced Game of thrones good-looking, well-directed and acted fantasy TV show that should keep you satisfied until House of the Dragon (the upcoming GoT prequel) premieres.
This series based on Philip Pullman’s fantasy epic His Dark Materials, which had made from a 2007 film, The Golden Compass. The Golden Compass starred Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig but failed to impress critics and fans of the cherished books – Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. It's no surprise that the book is now a series on HBO. It's an eight series web show which does not disappoint the fans.
The beauty of this adaptation is not only the length – with an hour per episode, there’s much more space to delve into the complexities of Pullman’s writing – but what’s on-screen. The imagery is gorgeous, the characters are just as rich as readers will remember, and the sense of anticipation that drives the narrative for viewers who may not have read the books is wildly compelling. In a nutshell, it’s a well-crafted coming-of-age story intertwined with politics and good old-fashioned adventure.
His Dark Materials airs on HBO Mondays at 9 PM.
