Pakistani Actress Sarwat Gilani Says Of Partnering With Indian Artists, 'You Are Spreading Inclusion, Love, Narratives, And Stories That Need To Be Told Across The Borders

Sarwat Gilani, a Pakistani actress, is currently experiencing worldwide fame for her film Joyland. It recently made history by being the first Pakistani movie to be nominated for an Oscar. That's not all, though. Recently, her Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam on Zee Zindagi got the Asian Academy Creative Award for Best Anthology and Gold at Promax India Awards.

In India, a few political parties and organizations are criticizing Pakistani movies. One recent instance is the opposition to Fawad Khan's film The Legend of Maula Jatt. Nevertheless, Sarwat asserts that she has never experienced any concern about working with Indian talent. In a conversation with Indian Express, she said, "Half of my family is from India. I grew up with a lot of Indian cultures. To feel, ‘Oh as a celebrity it would affect me, people would not look so kindly towards me’– no. Even if they didn’t, it’s ok. At the end of the day, you have worked 18 years for this country; have had the best of the times." Sarwat continued, saying that people shouldn't be afraid to work together with actors around the world. “It is time to expand and there is no harm in doing that because you are not degrading anyone with your craft. You are only spreading inclusion, love, narratives, and stories that need to be told across the borders”, she concluded.
