Pawan Kalyan is one of them. In his career, he directed only one film, which is Johnny. Released amidst huge expectations in 2003, this film ended up as a disappointment. Despite its commercial failure, Johnny remained as a special film to both Pawan Kalyan and his fans. On its release anniversary, here is a recap into this film.
Apart from directing and acting in it, Pawan also penned the script and screenplay of Johnny. There was a huge buzz before its release. Fans used to stitch the Johnny logo on their headbands. They also used various merchandise of the film which came up with the logo. Surrounded by a huge hype, Johnny had hit the screens on 25th April 2003.
Johnny is the story of a martial-arts trainer who decides to participate in various fight competitions, only to raise money for the operation of his wife, who is suffering from blood cancer. Though the movie had a decent plot, the viewers found it disappointing due to the lengthy second half. On the whole, the movie ended up as a failure at the box office. However, fans still like the film due to the commendable performance of Pawan Kalyan. He truly put his heart and soul in the film. Johnny featured Renu Desai as the female lead.
The music of the film was also a big hit. The entire album got composed by Ramana Gogula. Songs like Ee Reyi, Naaraju Kakura, Naalo Nuvvokasagamai, and Ye Chota Nuvvuna became chartbusters during those times.
