On September 30, Mani Ratnam's magnum opus "Ponniyin Selvan 1" made a grand release on the big screen. The historical drama has shattered almost all the collection records of Kollywood. "Ponniyin Selvan 1" has had a decline in foreign and other markets. But, the movie is still doing well to bring in average box office receipts. With 225 crore rupees in revenue from its fourth week in Tamil Nadu, the historical film is well into its fifth week. Credit goes to the addition of around 100 new screens.
New releases haven't affected the theatrical run of "Ponniyin Selvan 1". It continues to draw positive attention from fans as a masterfully crafted historical film. Ponniyin Selvan 1 has raked somewhere between 480 and 485 crores at the box office. It is anticipated that it will surpass 500 crores to pass Rajinikanth's "2.O". Tee producers will soon announce the 500 crore achievement when the movie reaches the historical level.
The film "Ponniyin Selvan 2," also known as "PS 2," will begin its extensive post-production work in November. It is expected to be released in the first half of 2023.
