Ponniyin Selvan, Mani Ratnam's crowning achievement, is a grand narrative rife with conflict, intrigue, and politics. The two-part movie has an ensemble cast with Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, and Jayam Ravi playing the key characters. Due to the fact that it is set in an entirely different era, it also requires a significant amount of visual effects. Now we learn that PS 1 is the first Tamil movie to be released in I-MAX format, making it a unique film.
The intensive marketing, big budget, and impressive cast of this Mani Ratnam-directed film have all contributed to the film's apparent early success with viewers. According to sources, the Chennai showings of this epic drama in 2D IMAX format were sold out in a record-breaking 3 minutes. The movie is scheduled to be released this week. It's interesting that the movie is being released in not just one, but five languages. Ponniyin Selvan will be released this month in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil in addition to Tamil, making it the biggest Pan India release.
