Alphonse Puthren's ‘Gold’ marks his comeback after 6 years. It seems to be following the same format as his earlier films as it gives more importance to post-production than the script or plot. But, this time the movie is receiving mixed responses.
On day 2, Gold had a slower start than it did on day 1. The average occupancy of the shows of Malayalam film was 13.33%. The film's dull occupancy was also visible in the Tamil dub. On day 2, there was a 3.92% Tamil occupancy overall.
According to recent trade reports, the movie's box office performance tanked on the first day of its release. It was anticipated to grow, but because of the poor occupancy rates. The movie saw a significant decline as early as the second day.
According to trade estimates, the movie made less than 1 crore net in the domestic market. It was originally projected to make around 2 crores. But given the current trend, the movie is now destined to be a box office failure unless a miracle occurs.
According to the Malayalam box office tracker, @keralaboxoffice, Gold made 2.75 crores in Kerala. It made 2.7 crores overseas on its first day of release. Thus it grossed a total of 5.75 crores worldwide.
Reportedly, Gold has over 1300 screens worldwide. It is the biggest-ever release for the actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Anand C Chandran is the director of Photography of the film. Rajesh Murugesan composed the music for the film. Shabareesh Varma pens the lyrics.
