Priyanka Chopra is in India with her daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas and her mother Madhu Chopra. The actor is quite busy with the promotion for her next series Citadel, which premiered on Tuesday in Mumbai. Madhu recently discussed Priyanka's career and how she missed out on movies as she declined to act in certain scenes.
Following her victory as Miss World 2000, Priyanka Chopra entered the industry and made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002). This was followed by her debut in Bollywood, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. (2003). At the beginning of Priyanka's film career, Madhu claimed that because both the actress and she were new to Mumbai, it was nothing more than "blind leading the blind." They had little knowledge of the workings of the film industry. Madhu remembered attending all of Priyanka's meetings and narrations with her. She also discussed the reasons for Priyanka's film losses.
In a recent interview with Josh Talks, Madhu said, “Both, she (Priyanka) and I were new to the film industry and the beauty industry. So, it was like one blind man leading another blind man. I had studied law and knew finance. So, I used to oversee her legal matter though she had good lawyers. I also overlooked her finances because I had knowledge. I had to be with her everywhere, be it narrations or meetings".
She added, "One day we decided that she will not have any meetings, she will not go out anywhere, she will not fraternize after 7-7.30 in the evening. She stood firm on this decision. Aur fir kya karegi, kya nahi karegi, tehzeeb-tameez ke dayare ke andar, vo usne nahi kiye (she did not do what she was not comfortable with)... She lost many films because she refused to do some scenes which she thought are not worth it."
Priyanka was informed by Madhu that she always had the option of choosing a different line of work and that her Bollywood career was not a "do or die" scenario. She claimed that Priyanka was informed that she had many options and could always go back and "take up studies or take up some other career."
On March 31, Priyanka arrived in India. Nick Jonas, her singer-husband, accompanied her as they travelled to India with their daughter Malti for the first time. Nick had accompanied Priyanka to Mumbai's Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre's opening weekend together with him. Ranveer Singh and her performed a dance routine.
