Priyanka Chopra to play Ma Anand Sheela

Priyanka Chopra has been cast as Ma Anand Sheela, the bioterrorist for a new Amazon Studios drama as reported by Deadline. The drama will be a biopic. Ma Anand Sheela is a convicted bioterrorist and commune leader. Reports state that Barry Levinson will direct this drama series. Barry Levinson shot to fame for directing projects like 'Rain Man' and ' Good Morning, Vietnam.'
 
In the Netflix documentary, "Wild Wild Country '' her role as the secretary to Guru Bhagwan Shree Rajness in the 80s came into light. She admitted about her role in poisoning the Oregon restaurants with salmonella during a conflict over an ashram. Due to this, around 750 people developed food poisoning.
 
Sheela received a conviction on the grounds of attempted murder and assault. She received a sentence of 20 years but after 39 months, she gets released on parole. But, she was soon convicted again for another murder attempt on a U.S. federal prosecutor.
 
Priyanka revealed about talks of working on this project in March 2019. She briefly mentioned in the Bravo talk show 'Watch What Happens Live' about this project. She did not, however, reveal any details. Priyanka reportedly revealed to Times of India that Levinson had been in search of apt casting for a long time and approached her with the role. She states that the project came to her as destiny rather than design. She also mentioned that there will be some time before the release of the project as it requires immense research.
