Suriya's hard-hitting courtroom drama Jai Bhim, directed by TJ Gnanavel, was released directly on Amazon Prime Video. The film received a lot of positive responses and also courted controversies for unnecessary reasons. The story of Jai Bhim was based on a real-life incident that happened in the 90s. The film showcased the police brutality, custodial torture, and caste discrimination that meted out to the people. Apart from Suriya, Jai Bhim features Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Rajisha Vijayan, Manikandan and Lijomol Jose in lead roles. From Kamal Haasan to Madhavan, many celebrities have been celebrating the film.
Seeing the incidents that Rajakannu and Parvathi were subjected to in real life, actor-director Raghava Lawrence took to social media to announce that he will be building her a house at his own expense. In his tweet, Lawrence said that he was moved by the injustice meted out to Parvathi Amma, wife of Rajakannu. Rajakannu was tortured and killed for a crime that he did not commit. Soon, Raghava Lawrence will start his work and start building a house for her. Earlier, Suriya and Jyotika on behalf of their production venture, 2D Entertainment, had contributed Rs 1 crore for the members of the Irular community.
