Rajkumar Hirani To Direct A Biopic Of Indian Cricket Ace Lala Amarnath

Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are currently filming Dunki. The movie is among the most eagerly anticipated of the year. Especially in light of the phenomenal success of SRK's most recent release movie Pathaan. However, a word about Hirani's upcoming film, Dunki, which would be his second biopic after Sanju, is already out there. According to a report from Peeping Moon, he would be discussing the life of former Indian cricket ace Lala Amarnath this time.

Reports say that the movie would be made by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment label.

According to a source, “Rajkumar Hirani has been planning a biopic on Lala Amarnath since 2019. In fact, it was one of the two scripts he had offered to SRK, but the superstar chose Dunki, and the biopic was put on hold for the time being. After Dunki’s release, Hirani wants to revive the Lala Amarnath biopic and has asked his writing team to finish the script by the year’s end. It’s a story Hirani has been very passionate about and is committed to starting work on it right after Dunki is out of his system.”

Lala Amarnath was born in 1911 on September 11th. He played right-handed bats and bowled right-handed medium fast. He participated in 24 tests for India, recording a century and four half centuries. In those numerous games, he took 45 wickets as a bowler, including two five-wicket hauls. He participated in 186 domestic matches. He was 88 years old when he died in 2000.

The source also mentioned how entertaining the biopic will be. “Lala Amarnath’s biopic is not a typical sports biopic. Hirani will tell his story in his usual entertaining way, beautifully highlighting Lala’s career, his spasmodic brilliance, and his enduring influence on Indian cricket. An A-list young star is expected to star in this film. However, the director will finalize someone only after he is done with Dunki’s shooting”.

Lala Amarnath's persona will be explored in more full-length movies after this one. Lala Amarnath appeared in a few parts of the critically acclaimed movie 83. It's interesting that his son and another legendary cricketer, Mohinder Amarnath, played his role.
