Rajkumar Santoshi Reveals That He Had Concerns About Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’s Fate At CBFC

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has said that his upcoming film Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh was okayed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without a single change. He added that he was scared earlier that the board may not pass the film at all. (Also read: Rajkumar Santoshi says his film Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh 'sympathizes with both)

The film is set in early post-independence India in 1947-48. It depicts the ideological conflict between Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi. The film will depict Godse's side of the story, detailing his motivations for shooting Gandhi.

Rajkumar took an unpopular stance on Gandhi in his film The Legend of Bhagat Singh. In an interview, the filmmaker stated, "Even here, my film has a very different take on Gandhi. I was actually scared that the censor may not pass the film altogether. But, the censor (board) did not even cut a single word."

Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi are played by Chinmay Mandlekar and Deepak Antani, respectively. Tanisha Santoshi, Rajkumar's daughter, makes her film debut in his comeback film.

Rajkumar set Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh immediately after Godse shot Gandhi. In the film, however, the leader of the nonviolent movement survives the attack. Gandhi subsequently encounters his assailant, Nathuram, in prison, and a heated debate ensues.

AR Rahman created the soundtrack for the film, which was produced by Manila Santoshi. Gandhi Aur Godse Ek Yudh will be released in theatres on January 26th, Republic Day.

Godse and Gandhi The release of Ek Yudh coincides with the release of Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan. The film is directed by Sidharth Anand and stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in prominent roles. It will be the first film starring Shah Rukh to be released in theatres in five years. He was most recently seen in Anand L Rai's Zero, which turned out to be a box Dudu.

Rajkumar's last film was Phata Poster Nikla Hero (2013), starring Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'cruz. Following that, he has Mithun Chakraborty's son Namish Chakraborty's debut film Bad Boy. There is also Amrin Qureshi's debut feature Bad Boy in the works.
