Rebel Star Prabhas's stylish gangster drama Billa completes 11 years of its release

Billa can be considered as one of the career-defining films in the career of Prabhas. It is the film which showed the actor in the most stylish way possible. The film had hit screens on April 3rd, 2009. The film celebrates its 11th release anniversary today. On this occasion, let us have a look back into this gangster drama.

Billa is an official remake of the 2007 Tamil film of the same name. That film itself is a remake of the old Bollywood classic Don. The Tamil version of Billa featured Ajith and Nayanthara in the lead roles. The Telugu version featured Anushka as the female lead. Namitha also played a key role, and Hansika Motwani played a guest role in the movie. It is also the first film in which Prabhas played a dual role. Billa is also the first film in which Prabhas acted together with his uncle Krishnam Raju.

The film traces the story of a dreaded don named Billa, who gets killed in a police shootout. To cover up his murder and unravel the secrets of the underworld, cops bring a lookalike of Billa in his place. The film was directed by Meher Ramesh. The director was quite successful in pulling off the film, with many stylistic action elements. The music, composed by Mani Sharma, was also a big add-on for the film. Songs like "Bommali", "My Name is Billa" and the Billa theme song were big hits during those times. Billa also ran for more than 100 days in many centers. This also led Prabhas and Anushka to team up three more times in the coming years. They later worked together for the films Mirchi, Baahubali, and Baahubali 2.
