Sam Raimi confirms news over directing Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

After director Scott Derrickson quit from the director's chair for MCU's upcoming Doctor Strange sequel much was left to speculation. While Derrickson continues to be an executive producer on the film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness finally has a new director. Sam Raimi who kickstarted one of the most iconic Spider-Man trilogy of films is now helming the sequel to Doctor Strange. The film stars British actor Benedict Cumberbatch in the iconic robes of the magician. The film will also star Elizabeth Olsen who plays Scarlet Witch in the MCU.

 

Sam Raimi who is currently promoting his upcoming Quibi series called 50 states of fright confirmed the news. He said, "I loved Doctor Strange as a kid." The director confirmed the news to various media sources over a call. He said, "He was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me. He was probably No. 5 for me for great comic book characters. He was so original."

 

Raimi has also popularly directed the Evil Dead series. A look back into Sam Raimi's Spiderman 2 starring Toby Maguire also shows a reference to the magician. Raimi is well known for his unique touch to his films. SpiderMan 2 continues to be the favorite interpretation of the wall-crawler superhero for many fans who have witnessed many new actors taking up the role. It is Tom Holland who currently plays Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

 

Raimi said that he is excited about directing the upcoming MCU film. He said, "When we had that moment in the first Spider-Man movie [editor's note: this was actually in the second Spider-Man movie], I had no idea we’d be making a Doctor Strange movie. So it was really funny to me also, coincidentally that line was in the first Spider-Man movie… I wish I had the foresight to know I was going to be involved in the project!"
