Sharman Joshi's career is most notable for the movie 3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. However, N Chandra's Style from 2001 became his claim to fame. He disclosed this in an exclusive chat. He said, “People started knowing me as Bantu (his character name in Style). They didn’t know me by name though".
However, he didn't really become popular until he appeared in his one and only Hirani film. Sharman remarked, “They started knowing me by my name only after 3 Idiots”. The actor related an amusing incident about how he and co-star Sahil Khan had dressed as women during the Style filming. “The first day I dressed up (as a woman) and walked onto the sets and started delivering my lines, Chandra ji was laughing like anything.”
Sharman emphasized that this was actually a compliment for his performance. He noted, “He (N Chandra) was absolutely delighted by the way I was playing it out. Of course, he had seen me during rehearsals but then he saw me in the whole costume. Everyone was loving it. And Sahil and I were wondering since we had done that daily during the rehearsals and not many people were praising it then.”
