Tomorrow, that is the 19th of May 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the cult classic Om. Om was the first Sandalwood film to depict rowdyism. A feature that is ever present in films today. The crime drama was written and directed by Upendra. Shivrajkumar starred in the leading role as Satya aka Satyamurthy. The fans of the film had already announced that the celebrations of the anniversary will kick off at 7 pm today. Upendra took to his Instagram to announce that he and Shivrajkumar will be going live on Facebook pages tomorrow at 7:30 pm to celebrate their film.
Om is one of Sandalwood's most famous and celebrated films of all time. It also has a cult fan following. The film was made on a budget of 70 lakhs and was produced under the banner Poornima Enterprises. The banner owned by the Dr Raj family and run by Parvathamma Rajkumar. The film was a box office success grossing 2-3 times the budget.
The film also starred Prema in the leading role and actors Srishanthi, G. V. Shivanand, Sadhu Kokila in supporting roles. The film was famous for employing real life to portray the gangster roles. Legendary musician Hamsaleka composed the film's score. Om was remade in Telugu as Omkaram in 1997 starring Dr. Rajashekhar and Prema. Upendra directed Omkaram as well.
As a part of the celebrations, Sandalwood personalities such as Ramesh Aravind, Rishab Shetty, director Suni, actress Shanvi Srivastava, Pawan Wadeyar, Raghu Dixit, Santhosh Ananddram, Ajaneesh Lokanath will change their display pictures to that of Om's film poster.
