During the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, Bollywood celebrity Sonu Sood came forward to rescue the migrant workers. He organised transport for them to reach their respective hometowns. The actor isn’t done helping, and recently announced the launch of an app ‘Pravasi Rojgar’. With this, workers can now find jobs in various parts of the city.
There will be information on various job profiles and opportunities, for free of cost. The app launched on the 23rd of July 2020. Over 500 companies are a part of this, providing jobs, such as construction, apparel, healthcare, engineering, BPOs, security, automobile, e-commerce and logistics sectors. He shared that a lot of work went into planning the app to ensure that it’s comprehensive. It also ensures that training services are available for youth below the poverty line, along with NGO collaborations. He also intends on making it larger, to provide an opportunity to upskill.
The actor said that the idea came from a conversation with a migrant worker. This is a step forward to ensure that they never again have to wait for an opportunity to work. Support centres for the app are already set in different parts of the country, namely Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore and Ahmadabad. Few of the services that the workers can avail through the app are safe to travel to the destination, counselling sessions, interviews, English training and many more. The actor is receiving a lot of appreciation for his efforts.
